The Moving Arts Collective invites you to a public listening party to celebrate the launch of the 'H.M.P His Music Productions' album—a collaborative project with Finding Rhythms and HMP La Moye that showcases the transformative power of music created by prisoners. This event is part of the 'Inside Out' exhibition at ArtHouse Jersey, which highlights the artistic talents of prisoners from HMP La Moye.
Experience the unique album, 'H.M.P His Music Productions', featuring 13 tracks made by 10 participants from diverse backgrounds. The process of making this album broke down internal and social barriers, allowing the participants' humanity and soul to sing . Join us in hearing them out and celebrating the creative force of these 13 pieces of music. Drinks and refreshments will be available.
We encourage the audience to embrace their emotional responses to the album, as we all danced and cried when we first listened to the tracks with the prisoners during a special album launch at HMP La Moye Prison on 15 May 2024.
We look forward to seeing you there!
About the album
In March 2024, HMP La Moye resonated with the power of music, resulting in a unique 13-track album created by participants—most of whom had never touched a microphone before. Led by Fred Harper and Thabo Mkwananzi from Finding Rhythms, with support from Esther Rose Parkes from the Moving Arts Collective, the project united ten men aged 21 to 58 from diverse backgrounds.
Titled His Music Productions by the prisoners, the album broke down barriers, allowing participants to express deep, often unspoken experiences such as longing, regret, and hope. Older prisoners mentored younger ones, and diversity was celebrated with songs in different languages and genres.
Copies of the album will be available to buy at the event or can purchased on line at:
